In addition to Mucha’s well-known decorative works from his Paris period, this exhibition presented drawings and pastels belonging to the Mucha Trust, many exhibited for the very first time. Items of furniture from Mucha’s Paris studio were also included in the exhibition.
Offering an insight into Mucha’s creative and personal background, the exhibition explored the concepts behind his unique style of ornamental decoration. Philosophical idealism, occultism and spirituality all informed his work.
Of particular interest were a group of little-known pastels which reveal the darker depths of Mucha’s imagination. A selection of his own photographs taken in his Parisian studio also offered visitors an insight into his working methods and his grasp of this medium.
