Portrait of Mucha's Son, Jiří (1925)
Mucha's second child, Jiří, was born in 1915 in Prague. Growing up in the castle at Zbiroh, while his father was engaged in the Slav Epic project, the young Jiří had an opportunity to observe his father's work. Like his sister, he posed for a number of his sketches and studies.
As this portrait shows, Mucha hoped his son would follow in his footsteps and become an artist. Instead, Jiří became a writer and his father's biographer, contributing to the revival of Mucha's popularity after the 1960s.
