Mucha’s photographic output spanned over 50 years, from his early years in Vienna to the end of his life. The Mucha Trust holds a remarkable collection of glass and celluloid negatives and vintage prints that cover a wide range of subjects and genres. Mucha took portraits, documentary shots of his surroundings and street life, studies of models and staged photographs, landscapes, nature and architectural studies. He did not consider his photographs to be works of art and saw no reason to alter or embellish them as was customary at the time. Mucha’s free, uncalculated approach to the medium gives his photographs a surprisingly fresh appeal and provides a unique example of modern photography.
